Free & Fit Challenge 2018 - Where Does your Strength Come From - February 2019 - Q&A with F&

Free & Fit Challenge - Where does your strength come from - February 2019 - Q&A with F&F Founder Tim Cheux

What is the Free & Fit Curriculum 2018?

As a team of writers on the Free & Fit curriculum for 2018 we discussed, in principle, that we would write a one page document, blog and explanation of each of our topics for a twelve part series to look at the nine Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 and the three elements of Joshua 1:9 being Bold, Strong and Courageous.

How do you communicate with each other throughout the year?

We rely purely upon our open accountability between each other. No regulated rule or instruction, we just communicate throughout the year and present ourselves to the Lord in pursuit of being Holy and Blameless. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work and we end up putting together our thoughts and perspectives over a year later!

We have had members of our group step down recently to pursue other areas and that is great as it allows us to work with other new people to join us and for our old friends to pursue new and exciting opportunities.

Where does your strength come from?

In all seriousness, our strength comes from the Lord. We are all different and made

uniquely in Gods image and today I hope we can share some of those stories through testimony and answering your questions. These verses help me personally during testing and trying times

Psalm 121: 1-2 I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

No matter what my situation or circumstance might be I need to stare it long and hard in the face.....Then.....retreat.....turn to the Lord and then come back some time later and, only with his help, overcome it!

What then does strength look like in the Free & Fit Curriculum?

In more detail our Free & Fit Challenge 2018 looks like this:

Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 Love (Greek: agape, Latin: caritas) Joy (Greek: chara, Latin: gaudium) Peace (Greek: eirene, Latin: pax) Patience (Greek: makrothumia, Latin: longanimitas) Kindness (Greek: chrestotes, Latin: benignitas) Goodness (Greek: agathosune, Latin: bonitas) Faithfulness (Greek: pistis, Latin: fides) Gentleness (Greek: prautes, Latin: modestia) Self-control (Greek: egkrateia, Latin:continentia Joshua 1:9

Bold (Greek: Tolmiros, Latin: Audax) Strong (Greek: Ischyros, Latin: Fortis) Courageous (Greek: Tharrelous, Latin: Animo)

Strength is only made possible through trial, testimony and experience; wrestling with life's battles and relying upon God. I wish I could say something more profound or supportive, but that is literally it. Trust and rely solely upon him and he will add everything unto you as well!

Who are The Free & Fit team of writers?

We have a wonderful group of Free and Fit members from the UK and USA who have contributed towards our curriculum. Below they share their experiences from Free & Fit.

John Colquhoun

I joined F&F in Jan 2016 via discovering HTB Church summer 2014. My journey into fitness started in May 2015 when I signed up to hike in the Commando Spirit 30 mile yomp in the Scottish Highlands for The Royal Marines Charity. September 2015 came and I got my first finishers medal for that yomp. F&F helped me keep my journey into fitness and sport godly, it helped from becoming vain and shallow. I now play football, touch rugby and train Krav Maga every week. I run in 10k and half marathons races quite easily a few times a year. 2019 will be my first time running a full marathon and hiking my second 24km hiking race with 16kg.

Nav Merghan

I joined the Free and Fit London (Formerly known as Faith and Fitness) in June 2013. Since then, I have been passionate about diversity of the exercises integrated with the topics of freedom to address the main daily life issues. I am exceptionally keen on meeting diverse people, discuss the Bible verses and exercise with them. The ethos of this group, i.e. combining the physical exercises with spiritual growth and prayers, has provided me with a focused and clear context to find freedom in the city through my faith.

Colby Hanks

My name is Colby and I reside in Dallas, Texas. I am thankful to have been offered an invite to the early days of Free&Fit (and similar groups from which it evolved) in London, England, prior to moving back home to America in 2014. Cheers to all who have showed up to support and explore this community since its inception. I love seeing how F&F continues inspire friends near and far in ways that are unique to each person.

Summer Camp Contributors

Various members of our summer camp contributed towards our series on the Fruit of the Spirit, but from our contributors you can hear directly from Audrey and Codey right here on our Free & Fit Channel on Youtube!

Who are some of the Free & Fit members?

We have a small community of five to ten regular attendees in both New York and London who have been faithful, loyal and very encouraging to all of us throughout our time together and since our launches back in 2013 in London and 2017 in New York. Two of our faithful friends our Ray (New York) and Charlie (London).

Ray Scherma

I joined free and fit in the Fall of 2017. I had met Tim while doing street teams, which is a homeless outreach group that goes out on the streets of NYC to speak love and hope to the homeless.

I was interested in the group for a few reasons. I got along with Tim and felt a connection pretty quickly so I saw it as an opportunity to grow in our friendship. I also saw it as a way to meet other people since I myself was new to the city. I love to work out and I desire to grow in my walk with God alongside others so it was a no brained for me. I keep coming back to free and fit because of the fellowship. It’s extremely important to have fellowship with other believers that can help you keep accountable or just be an ear to listen.

That is what Free and Fit offers. A place to be both spiritually and physically nurtured while building solid relationships. Free and Fit has been another tool for me to grow in my faith and take my relationship with God to the next level. Tim’s relentless dedication and discipline in His walk with Christ is inspiring and motivational. I look forward to being a part of Free and Fit in this new year.

Charlie Richards

I joined Faith & Fitness in January 2014. To the question why did I come back? I didn’t come back, because I never left! Why do I take part? The physical aspect along with the fellowship and prayers helped me with my physical fitness, mental functioning, spiritual health, and it also helped me to bond relationships with other group members.

What are your aims for 2019?

Firstly to be strong enough to finish our 2018 curriculum! We may have to change that title! Anyway, we have just relaunched, in New York, after six months of being in Hoboken in New Jersey with Mile Square Church and we are patiently trying to build a new and existing team through a unique blend of Workout & Worship.

Our Youth project continues in New Jersey and we are just praying for break through in terms of a location, volunteers and for our team to re-ignite for summer Camp! In London and New York we are planning new weekend retreats and are looking for volunteers and new locations! With that all said, we look forward to wrestling with our faith and fitness throughout 2019!
