Free & Fit NYC/NJ - Share the Miracle Easter Campaign 2019

This Easter we collected Easter eggs in the New York City, Hoboken, Old Tappan, Norwood and Harrington Park. We were very blessed as we met our overall collection of 150, we ended up with a collection over 500 Easter eggs or bunnies. In this process we gave out our donations on four different occasions to friends and those less fortunate on the build up to Easter.

On our first outing we went to the New York University where we gave out eggs to students, staff and faculty. As part of our campaign we had a stall with an Easter Bunny stop and we were able to stop, speak and engage with students about their studies and experience of Easter.

After our visit to New York University we went to the townships of Harrington Park and Old Tappan where we visited the Police, Fire, local services and businesses. We gave out Easter eggs, invited the community to local Church services and shared the stories of our previous UK #sharetheMiracle experiences and we also extended an invitation to our upcoming Summer Camp in July this summer.

After we visited Old Tappan and Harrington Park on Good Friday we visited the Closter Plaza where we spoke to local business organisations about our mission to serve and grow community through the Arts, Sports, Service and Social Justice. We previously held Youth Starbucks, Hangouts and Movie nights on the Plaza so some of the staff were familiar with our team and were excited that we were still doing the work and sharing the Miracle through Easter Eggs with them!

On Easter morning we went to the Hoboken Homeless Shelter and Hospital to give out over 300 eggs that we had received as a donation from our various donation locations in the city of New York, in Hoboken and New Jersey. We also donated some eggs to our partners at Jefferson Coffee shop and also to All Saints Church both on Washington High Street.

We would like to place on record a huge thank you to all our donors, friends and family who gave given up their time, energy and efforts to support us along this campaign. We look forward to Share the Miracle Campaign 2020.

Share the Miracle—is a simple initiative that helps individuals and organizations build stronger communities through acts of kindness at Easter. It began in 2013 when Dan Usher had an idea to buy 100 chocolate eggs from a store and give them away in the local community. As he reached out, he found that people opened up, conversation became easy, and he caught a glimpse of how an act of kindness could be a catalyst to starting a conversation, building new relationships and ultimately, forming stronger communities. That day, Share the Miracle was born, and since then hundreds of volunteers have reached out to thousands of people including neighbors, colleagues, those unwell in the hospital, the elderly, disadvantaged young people, victims of human trafficking, and more.
