Free & Fit - Why Feminine Values & Virtues can help you Become Free & Fit

Free & Fit - Redefining Feminine and Re-Imagining Free & Fit

This January I began a self-care journey with a new dietician, counsellor and life coach. It set me off in a direction of deep self-introspection and a dive into my feelings, emotions and essentially my feminine side! It caught me off guard and deeply emotional. In fact, it made me sometimes feel uncomfortable, deeply inconsolable and I was walking around like a nervous wreck. One minute I felt all alone and then the next deeply comforted by community. Again, I then felt desperately lonely and then all of a sudden enormously grateful for my Church and Chaplaincy. It continued as I then felt endlessly rock bottom and then all of a sudden saved all over again by Jesus Christ. That’s how it is at the moment. It’s therapy, it’s my relationship to food and as I go deeper into therapy, excitement, feelings, emotions and the rollercoaster of seeking healing from the great healer Jesus Christ must continue!

We can all borrow, attach and assume things about our feelings and emotions. Often in Sport it is expected for an athlete be an Alpha dominant person and in Church that a leader will lead with autocratic leadership, but these are perhaps stereo types and certainly are not just limited to being male or female. Many successful female leaders in sport can be competitive, fierce and demonstrate single minded focused disciplines to achieve their goals; whilst still being compassionate and demonstrate empathy to others. The difference between our masculine and feminine emotions, for me, is that I have not been able to balance the two and often struggle to find male friends or mentors who can demonstrate this to me. This is isn’t explicitly being told what to do, it is actually being told it’s okay to not be okay and that you can fail, make mistakes and I will still trust you. It’s a sense of feeling safe.

The feminine feelings and emotions are new for me. It was something I had not experienced before. I felt all the feels, loved all the space it created for me to breathe and I became somewhat unrecognizable to myself. I was crying when going out to coach tennis, weeping in between sessions and crying out to Jesus in Worship. For example, I am grieving one minute, desperately saddened the next and then deeply distressed at what harm as a man I have done to my fellow person, myself and those sensitive friends like me in our world. It’s very apparent that I am changing in how I see the world through a more sensitive lense. In fact, I have a new reality of imagining how difficult life is for females, both those who seek to dominate autocratically or those who may wish to focus on themselves and being proud about who they, where they are today and where they are going tomorrow. For the first time, I have not realized about the challenges faced by my female counterparts when seeking to lead or to participate. My journey first began with the infamous quote “I was listening to this podcast.”

Whilst interviewing for a new life coach I met a lady based here in Charlotte called Robyn Reidlinger and she gave me confidence that I could explore my deeper inner feelings, still remaining myself whilst discovering feminism and my new found desire to help my fellow female human. I would thoroughly recommend working with Robyn and her life coaching business. My discovery call and coaching session with Robyn was hugely powerful. She now is working out her new life in Bali and Australia as she inspires, reflects and redirects to something new.

It was from Robyn’s connection I explored the podcast world and where I met Marisa Lonic and her now famous podcast “Momma Fit”

or I should say “Momma Work It!” I learnt all about college education, mum life and how to stop procrastinating. It was also my honor to get to meet with Marisa on a Discovery Call and she encouraged me to go deeper into searching into my own feminine side, emotional intelligence and personal feelings towards my fellow female. Marisa is supportive, extremely humble and welcoming to all her podcast members and even welcomed me!

The main take away I have learned is how women stand up for each other, collaborate, support one another and fight for female opportunities. This has lead me to explore the values, ethics and examples of female leaders more and helped me find the “Leading Lady podcast”. This helped me to understand, develop and personally reflect how both a theology of toxic masculinity and my own missteps and mistakes can be lessons, opportunities and growth as I seek to grow as a leader, learner and caregiver.

The Leading Lady podcast is hosted by AliceAnn Loftus who I have not connected with, but now feel like is my mentor and advocate as I explore ways of betterment for my own perspective, personal feminine expression and curation of exploring this new found expression of myself. Don’t be concerned for my masculine side. My competitive side forever rules my mind in conversation, coaching and council, but may need to be a little bit more subdued if I am truly to respect, grow and collaborate more well with my female counterparts. I am learning, growing and seeking support as I do this from my coaches and connections. Watch this space for more!

This recent development has been hugely beneficial for my own personal development. It’s extremely inspiring, insightful and indeed all of what my own beautiful bride and feminine icon Elizabeth Anne Cucco demonstrates to me on a daily basis. As a leader, as a wife and as a friend I hugely endorse Liza’s art work, leadership and new found improv career!

Thanks for reading, listening and daring to redefine feminism with me!

For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes]. [Is 40:13]”
