Free & Fit - Summer with the Psalms - Friday 2nd August Psalm 62
Summer with the Psalms
Friday 2nd August Psalm 62
“For God alone my soul waits in silence; From Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, My defense and my strong tower; I will not be shaken or disheartened. How long will you attack a man So that you may murder him, all of you, Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence? They consult only to throw him down from his high position [to dishonor him]; They delight in lies. They bless with [the words of] their mouths, But inwardly they curse. Selah. For God alone my soul waits in silence and quietly submits to Him, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; My fortress and my defense, I will not be shaken or discouraged. On God my salvation and my glory rest; He is my rock of [unyielding] strength, my refuge is in God. Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Selah. Men of low degree are only a breath (emptiness), and men of [high] rank are a lie (delusion). In the balances they go up [because they have no measurable weight or value]; They are together lighter than a breath. Do not trust in oppression, And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. Also to You, O Lord, belong lovingkindness and compassion, For You compensate every man according to [the value of] his work. [Jer 17:10; Rev 22:12]”

Psalm Poem & Reflection with Prayer
Summertime Sails by Tim Cheux
“The summer is hot and the Sweat is real,
The day is long and our God is near,
The thoughts of ice creams are to heal,
The relief of swimming in the sea is clear.
Let us not be silent when our Gods hears,
We can approach his throne in truth,
With joy and confidence of providence,
The healing begins immediately God is not aloof.
Find your place of prayer everyday,
Find it in a time alone with your door shut,
Find Jesus there in the midst to make a way,
Find God in truth and always in your prayer hut.”(Cheux, Summer 2023.)
When we face challenges, when we face injustice or when we face indifference we are called not to seek for our own truth or justice, but to allow room for the Holy Spirit and for our witness to lead people to Jesus. It’s a somber, humbling and character shaping practice which is extremely difficult.
So, of course, Paul is the one teaching us in the way to go! Paul has a unique writing style of informing his friends, family and fellow Disciples in the way to go. Paul is renowned for being a loving, compassionate and disciplined Apostle. It is this character which leads us to repentance, Gods mercy and righteousness lead us back to the alter. Where we can find peace, healing and of Gods abounding grace. Yet, we must not take this for granted, seek our own agenda and to avoid the troubling issues in our world. It is an altogether very difficult teaching.
So I hear you ask how can we practice such patience and kindness to others? We have to ultimately pray. It may sound cliche and altogether too easy, but we have to let go of what we are holding onto and surrender it to God. This is not a simple let go and and let God. It is more of a prayer to seek freedom from our old way of life in pursuing our own morale justice and allowing God to move. Setting aside ourselves, our flesh and our human emotions to ultimately allow freedom for the Holy Spirit to move.
For me this is possible through praying the Jesus Prayer. Simply reciting “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on Me a Sinner” perhaps for you it is Phillipians 4:13 “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” However, you find your route to Christ, to demonstrate inner peace to others and share the Love of Christ. I encourage you to all you can to share the Love of God in Jesus name. Amen
Let us Pray…
Lord Jesus Christ be with us this day. Leading us on, showing us the way and teaching us how to follow you more eagerly each day. Help us, save us and transform us into your image in and through the Holy Spirit in Jesus name. Amen
“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
