Tenacious Teaching for Timothy’s with Reflections

Wednesday 6th November

1 Timothy 1:1-17

Opening Verse

“The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬

“We know that the law is good when used correctly.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭8

1 Timothy 1-17 in full:

Reflections:

Do you follow instructions? Are you willing to

learn and listen? Since birth I have been named Timothy and my Mother has always addressed me that way whenever I have needed to listen to her and learn from her. Whether or not you grew up in a Matriarch or a Patriarch, whether with parents or guardians, only child or without parents as an orphan I am confident there have been times in life when you have been unwilling to listen to God, to man or to someone or something!

It’s perhaps how you found yourself this morning you were unwilling to watch the news, to agree with the decision and were demanding a rematch in the election. However, God has other plans, just like he has always done when there has been a change in some sort of power. Last night I joked that Pep Guardiola was being taken out of office as leader of the free world. Just because Manchester City lost three games on the spin, just because they are expected to win and didn’t doesn’t mean that God is not in control. How do we respond when our team

Loses? How do we feel when our politicians are not re-elected or chosen to be our representative in office?

“Even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! “

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭13-14

This is true for me last night when my soccer team also lost 4-1 to Middlesbrough and were again facing relegation straight in the face for the third year in a row. They have one only one game all season. Much like the Charlotte Panthers American football team I am surprise when they win like last time out. Perhaps it’s time for us to put down false idols and put our trust instead in Jesus Christ!

“He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:15

We need to Trust God and not man. We need not to be consumed by the worries of this world and the spectacular isolationists that seek to divide us. We must instead place our trust in Jesus Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life!

“This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭16

As we contemplate a new era on January 5th don’t get beat up or too over confident about who is going to be taking control of the country. As, unfortunately, it will not provide you with the answers you seek. Jesus Christ is definitely coming back and let’s be conscious we must be ready for Him when he comes!

“But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So instead, at the end of sporting occasions lets be kind, shake hands and be hospitable to one another without complaint. (1Peter 4:7-9) At the end let us not forget that we have fought the good and worthy and noble fight, we have finished the race, we have kept the faith firmly guarding the gospel against error.

Let’s be a passionate and victorious sports team for the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Closing Prayer

For in the future there is reserved for us the [victor’s] crown of righteousness [for being right with God and doing right], which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to us on that [great] day—and not to us only, but also to all those who have loved and longed for and welcomed His appearing. In Jesus name. Amen

(2 Timothy 4:7-8).

“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”

‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬
