Serving protected under the Lords Wings - by Tim Cheux with the Charlotte Lady Eagles

Serving protected under the Lords Wings

While going through one of the most difficult career transitions in my life this past summer, the Lord led me to a safe place, to an environment of healing, restoration and pure joy. The words of Isaiah speak of being protected and sheltered under the Lord Most High's wings, just as if a baby bird was being protected by its mother eagle.

The protection and coverage of an all-encompassing, ever-present and all-loving God never seemed so apparent to me in this moment. I walked onto the field of my first session and felt like I was being greeted by a flock of the Lord's angels and archangels, with all the company of heaven.

These players were competitive but compassionate, enthusiastic yet encouraging, and extremely athletic -- and yet some were just amateurs. The coaching staff greeted me with smiles and high fives, and this was to remain the theme of welcome that would embrace me all summer long. The professionalism, environment and energy was espoused by their leader and head coach Sam Hope, who personally had invited me to share the word that day.

This was a moment of death for me, as my first pastoral position had come to a close, but being born inside of me in this transition was a new endeavor and a new hope made possible through the witness of love, welcome and excellence at the Lady Eagles. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus came to save us, to show us a better way, a way to truth, a way to travel and a road to freedom -- to eternal life.

The scripture starts with an invitation to question how we live daily. It says in Isaiah, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become tired or grow weary; There is no searching of His understanding. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power.”(Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭28‬-‭29 ‭AMP‬‬)

This is what was happening to me internally in this experience. As the season started, the Lord was growing something inside of me, leading me to the hope for all humanity in Jesus and developing a deeper sense of his presence in my own life. I was invited to remember and to know his innocence against sin, to know his eminence everywhere I go and to know his presence when I was facing trials and tribulations.

For so long, I have been running the race, fighting the good fight, and here I was facing my future, feeling burnt out on religion. I was ready to come to him, as I grew heavy laden, and receive rest. As that scripture in Isaiah continues, I had become weary….."even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired." (Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

I didn’t realize what was happening before my very eyes. At a point of defeat, looking a 2-0 defeat head-on, there needed to be a change and a different outcome. Like my own faith had been reversed from low to high, the Lord was about to reverse a negative into a positive and a miraculous recovery to reach an ascent which was beyond all our expectations. The Lady Eagles would come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the final game, to be drawn into the playoffs as a wild card. Now wait for it, and not that this wasn’t surprising enough alaready, after going 4-1 down in the first half of the Southern Regional Semifinal, the Ladies flipped another impossible outcome to run away 5-4 victors!

The story continued to amaze me as the Eagles journeyed to the finals of the National Championship, where the Eagles would clinch a famous victory. To be crowned National Champions with two last minute 1-0 wins in the semi-final and final! It was a complete transformation, from death to life which demonstrates even in soccer, even in front of my very own eyes, God can still move and is alive today!

If you would be willing to support the beautiful work of the Charlotte Lady Eagles to change the world through a simple game of soccer, please consider supporting their witness. This includes the preperation of every home and away match with Worship and Chapel Services, local recreational soccer programs, children's outreach, global mission trips and local community events serving the greater Charlotte Metro area through the Eagles outreach. Please consider donating to them this Giving Tuesday to maximize the impact of your gift.

My prayer is that we could help others receive the same peace and help others to pause in his presence, to receive Jesus Christ as king and lord of their lives today. Please consider supporting this ministry and supporting the work of the Charlotte Lady Eagles via the links below.
